Barcelona smashed Valladolid 5-1 at the Nou Camp on Tuesday night, with Lionel Messi putting in his best performance of the season.
The Argentine star scored twice and provided two assists in the dominant win.
In doing so, he also scored the 50th free-kick of his career, as he curled an effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.
His most impressive moment came when he took five players out of the game to lay the ball on a plate for Arturo Vidal.
Messi was given space 25 yards out on the right hand side, before taking a touch inside and floating a cross into the middle of the penalty area.
The ball fell perfectly onto the right foot of the rushing Chilean, who poked it into the bottom corner.
His second goal came in the second half with Barcelona comfortably ahead.
The Argentine received the ball to his chest with his back to goal, before he quickly swivelled and lashed a volley into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
He wasn’t done there, however, as he had one last trick up his sleeve for the fans in the Nou Camp.
With 15 minutes remaining, Messi slotted the ball through the middle of four defenders to set Luis Suarez through on goal, and the Uruguayan did what he does best and passed into the bottom corner.
After the game, Barca fans were stunned with Messi’s performance and his assist for Vidal’s goal.
Fans took to Twitter to demand the 32-year-old receive his sixth Ballon d’Or, which would be his first since 2015.
One wrote: “Doesn’t need any PR, doesn’t even need to give interviews to prove how good he is. FranceFootball if you have a little bit of integrity just hand the Ballon D’Or 2019 to him. Absolutely NO ONE has been better than Lionel Messi INDIVIDUALLY in 2019.
“Give him the ballon d’or,” another posted.
One joked: ”Yo fifa, just give the man his Ballon D’or already. No one is catching up to him.
“Aaaaah just give him the Ballon d’Or…#Messi” another wrote.
One stunned fan tweeted: “Oh my god, the magician!!!”
One Barca fan simply wrote: “Imagine not accepting this guy as the greatest player of all time.”
