Lionel Messi best goal: Barcelona fans choose THREE strikes that are best in club history

Barcelona asked supporters to vote on the greatest goal in the club’s history.

And Messi shot to the top of the votes, with three of his goals considered the best Barca have ever scored.

The vote saw over 500,000 fans cast their choice across 160 countries.

Fans had 63 goals to choose from.

Here are the three best… according to the fans!

3. Messi vs Real Madrid, April 2011

Lionel Messi scored twice against Real Madrid in this Champions League semi-final second leg.

And it was his mesmerising weave through the Real defence – before he slotted past Iker Casillas – that earned 16 per cent of the overall votes.

The match saw Barcelona stun their rivals 2-0 at the Bernabeu and they progressed to the final 3-1 on aggregate.

That 2010/11 Barca team is considered one of the best of all time, with Pep Guardiola’s men outclassing Manchester United 3-1 in the final.

Messi scored an eye-watering 53 goals for club and country that season – with just two coming for Argentina.

2. Messi vs Bilbao, May 2015

Messi scored twice for Barcelona in the 2015 Copa del Rey final against Bilbao.

And his goal which clinched second in the vote with 28 per cent of the ballot was a stunner.

Messi jinked in off the right wing after shaking off a defender, then bypassed four tackles before moving back onto his left foot to aim towards the near post.

The Bilbao goalkeeper had no chance as Messi reeled away in celebration.

1. Messi vs Getafe, April 2005

This was when Messi was really put on the map at Barcelona.

Messi was just a teenager at the time of this Copa del Rey semi-final but scored twice as Barca ran out 5-2 victors in the first leg.

Xavi, Eider Gudjohnsen and Samuel Eto’o also scored for Barcelona that day.

Barcelona’s best ever goal – according to the vote – came when Messi dispossessed an opponent on the halfway line.

The long-haired teen then sprinted forward, bypassed two challenges with a mesmerising change of direction, moved to chip over the goalkeeper, rounded the stranded keeper and side-footed home.

The goal took 10 seconds and shot Messi’s name into superstardom.
