Line Of Duty actor Stephen Graham has revealed that his struggle with dyslexia means he leaves it up to his wife to pick his roles.

And she’s good at it too.

Speaking on a BAFTA Sessions panel about acting performance, the 45-year-old says his other half Hannah Walters – who is also an actor – often reads his scripts for him and tells him which parts to take and which to avoid.

‘I’m dyslexic so I struggle. My missus actually reads the script and says whether or not I’m doing it. She’s made some good choices,’ he said.

‘I have to read it and read it and read it, then make it look like it’s the first time I’m saying it.’

Stephen is famous for his role as Combo in Shane Meadows’ This Is England film and Channel 4 series, but has most recently appeared as undercover police officer John Corbett in Line Of Duty.

Stephen credits Shane for helping him getting over his dyslexia by having a flexible approach to the script, explaining: ‘With Shane you spend a lot of time getting into the character and you spend the majority of time doing that and then when you’re in the room it’s whatever happens.

‘With the script it’s knowing it, knowing it, knowing it and then throwing it away.’

Stephen’s wife Hannah also appeared in This Is England, playing Trudy in both the film and the ’86 series.

You might also recognise her as DC Grace Riley from Broadchurch.

The couple were married in 2008 and have two children, Grace and Alfie.

Warning: Line Of Duty spoilers ahead

Fans of Line Of Duty were shocked at the latest episode, which saw the end of John Corbett when the OCG he had infiltrated took it upon themselves to slit his throat when he tried to rescue a group of women from being sold into the sex trade.

But fear not, Stephen Graham fans, it won’t be long until we get to see him in another Shane Meadows project, The Virtues on Channel 4.

He’s also currently filming a new Sky One comedy, Code 404, in which he’ll play another police officer. Phew.

Line Of Duty continues on Sundays, at 9pm, on BBC One.
