Stephen Graham’s 2019 just keeps getting better, as the British actor has joined the cast of Venom 2.

It’s been an amazing year for Stephen, who has starred in the 2019’s biggest shows and films in the form of Line of Duty, The Virtues and The Irishman.

And according to Deadline, the 46-year-old will now be trying his hand at the superhero stuff, as he joins Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams in the sequel to the hugely popular 2018 comic book adaptation.

While it’s not yet clear which role Stephen will play, he will be joined by fellow newcomers Woody Harrelson and James Bond’s Naomie Harris, who star as Carnage and his love interest Shriek.

While Woody’s supervillain made a cameo appearance in the first film’s end credit sequence, the sequel will explore the character in more depth, as well as introducing the world to Shriek and her powers of flight, sonic blasts and an ability to stir up dark and violent emotions in others.

With Andy Serkis (yep, the Andy Serkis) directing and Fifty Shades of Grey screenwriter Kelly Marcel working on the script, Venom 2 is shaping up to be an exciting project.

However, some fans were surprised to hear that the film would be returning for a sequel at all.

Despite raking in a whopping $850 million (£667 million) following its release last year, the film was near-universally panned by many critics, with Metro.co.uk saying the film’s ‘story struggles under a weak and confused antagonist’.

Second time lucky, eh guys?
