Legendary rock band releasing first single in 28 years – featuring vocals of late singer after drug overdose death

A HIT rock band is set to release its first single in 28 years – complete with the vocals of its late singer.

The son of the band’s frontman – who passed away aged just 28 – was quick to hail the sentimental track as a “beautiful thing” and told fans “the sky’s the limit.”

American musicians Sublime formed in Long Beach, California, in 1988.

It featured a trio of musicians, these being Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson and Bug Gaugh.

An honorary fourth member came in the form of Bradley’s adorable Dalmatian, Lou Dog.

They are well-known for tracks including What I Got, Wrong Way, Santeria and Smoke Two Joints.

Yet tragedy struck in 1996 when singer, guitarist and songwriter Bradley died of a heroine overdose, aged 28.

Sublime released their third and final album, also entitled Sublime, two months after his passing.

The band then split straight after.

Yet Bradley’s son Jakob has lead the way on both the band’s reunion as well as its fresh track.

The group’s new single Feel Like That (featuring Bradley Nowell) was released on Friday and has broken boundaries featuring the late singer’s vocal talent in one segment.

Jakob, who was born 11 months before his father’s overdose, also shows his vocal talents in a verse after taking his father’s spot in the group.

He told Rolling Stone Magazine of the fresh material and said: “My dad has a verse and then I have a verse and then Stick closes out the song.

“It’s a beautiful thing.”

Jakob, who has followed his father’s footsteps with a career in music as part of a series of different bands, added: “We are blessed that we still have all these old recordings and that we were able to stumble upon an outtake that has been sitting there waiting for all these years.”

The former LAW band member also talked of the future of Sublime.

He added: “I think if fans really dig this track and people like the direction, then the sky’s the limit.”

Back in April, Jakob played his late father’s guitar as Sublime hit the stage at Coachella.

He fronted a full set with the band, much of it performed topless showcasing two striking tattoos on his chest.

He has joined Eric and Bud in the original line-up as well as juggling the role with his own band Jakob’s Castle, which has just released a new album.
