Legacies Season 2: The Originals cast member confirmed for shock return

Legacies season two will premiere on Thursday, October 10 on The CW. The show is a spin-off series to the Vampire Diaries and The Originals and Julie Plec serves as showrunner. Throughout season one of Legacies and ahead of season two, Vampire Diaries and The Originals fans have been hoping some of the characters will appear in the Legacies universe. Here’s everything you need to know about the return of Freya Mikaelson, played by Riley Voelkel.

Who is Freya Mikaleson?

Freya Mikaleson (played by Riley Voelkel) is Hope Mikaelson’s (Danielle Rose Russell) aunt.

Last week, TV Guide announced that Voelkel will guest-star in episode six of Legacies season two.

Voelkel also confirmed the news by retweeting news stories confirming her return to her 87,000 Twitter followers.

Since then, not many details have been revealed about what is in store for Freya.

The last time viewers saw Freya was during the finale of The Originals, which aired in August 208.

Sadly, Freya was mourning the deaths of her brothers Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies).

However, she did have a happy ending where she married her werewolf wife Keelin (Christina Moses).

Freya may return to give Hope advice, who in the latest season will be returning from Malivor and bracing for the merge of the Saltmazn twins.

Hope was erased from everybody’s memory at the end of Legacies season one, so it is also possible that Freya may not even know who Hope is and vice versa.

Freya is not the only character from The Originals and The Vampire Diaries to appear in Legacies.

Zach Roerig recurred throughout Legacies first season as Sheriff Matt Donovan and Steven R McQueen made a one-episode cameo as Jeremy Gilbert.

Fans are also suspecting that Chris Wood will return as Kai Parker in the new series alongside Candice King as Caroline Forbes but that has not yet been confirmed.

Showrunner Julie Plec has always said she has an “open for policy” for characters from The Vampire Diaries an The Originals to return to Legacies.

Speaking to Comic Book.com, Plec said: “I think there’s going to be an opportunity this year to see some of the Originals.

“I don’t know who and I don’t know when, but the way that Hope’s storyline is shaping up, there’s definitely a link to the family that got left behind … that we will have to address at a certain point.

“And it would be nice to see a familiar face.“
