A LABOUR councillor is facing a probe over a string of homophobic rants at politicians and football stars.

Alan Humphries, a fanatical supporter of Jeremy Corbyn, even targeted a blind sportsman in his astonishing online campaign.

But last night his future was in doubt as party chiefs examined a file on offensive remarks he posted over a two-year period.

Mr Humphries, who is standing for re-election to Wychavon Council in Worcestershire next month repeatedly called former Deputy PM Nick Clegg “The F*g” and referred to the Lib Dems as “the Tory’s bum boys”.

The gobby councillor described former England players Peter Crouch and Theo Walcott a “pair of whingeing poofs”.

He branded Liverpool star James Milner “a fairy” and told ex-Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas: “Man up you nancy boy or f*** off and take up bowls.”

Mr Corbyn has vowed to fight hatred of gay people and insists “homophobia, biphobia and transphobia have no place online”.

‘LABOUR DOESN’T PRACTICE WHAT IT PREACHES’

But Mr Humphries, of Droitwich, had different ideas as he directed Twitter insults at the many not the few.

In one of his earliest posts in 2010, he called England Disability Cricketer of the Year Luke Sugg a “little f*g”.

And he described International Blind Cricket as “utter feckless sh**e played by pampered nancy boys”.

Tory MP Paul Scully said: “These are just unacceptable comments for anyone to be making, let alone a Labour party candidate.

“Once again, it seems the Labour party doesn’t practice what it preaches.”

‘I WAS EXTREMELY IGNORANT’

A Labour Party spokesman said: “The Labour Party takes any complaints about homophobic language extremely seriously, which are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.”

Mr Humphries said: “Posts on my social media from nine years ago have been bought to my attention, which are absolutely appalling and fill me with disgust.

“This was before I was a member of the Labour Party. I was extremely ignorant and I did not understand how such language was promoting prejudice and how it would cause serious hurt and offence.

“Since becoming active in politics I have learnt about about the discrimination faced by so many people on the basis of their identity, including sexuality, gender, and who people love.

“These posts do not reflect the person I am today. I do not hold those abhorrent views, and I wholeheartedly support and champion LGBT+ rights.

“I would like to make an unreserved, unequivocal apology from the bottom of my heart for having made such comments.”
