Labour confirm they'll vote down Boris Johnson's general election bid tonight

Labour have confirmed once and for all that they will vote down “liar” Boris Johnson’s push for a general election in the House of Commons tonight.

MPs will vote from 9pm on whether to hold a snap poll after the Prime Minister shredded his own majority to minus 43 over no-deal Brexit .

Downing Street is now looking at a likely date of October 15, a date they have already had to change after it clashed with a Jewish holiday.

Mr Johnson needs two-thirds of all MPs in the Commons, 434 of them, to vote in favour of an election – meaning he needs Labour’s help.

But Labour’s Shadow Brexit Secretary Sir Keir Starmer today confirmed the party will not vote in favour, meaning the election bid looks doomed to fail.

He warned MPs must first pass the Bill, introduced by MPs at 3pm today, that will block a no-deal Brexit on October 31.

The Labour MP told Sky News: “We are not dancing to Boris Johnson ’s tune.”

Sir Keir said Mr Johnson has been “dishonest time and again” and “lied” to MPs.

“When he says the 15th of October, I can tell you across all the opposition parties and some Tory MPs, they do not trust him,” Sir Keir said.
