Kylian Mbappe has backed up Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s claims that he has no influence over transfers at the Parc des Princes.

The World Cup winner has just over 12 months remaining on his current contract PSG, leading to intense speculation about the future.

The likes of Real Madrid and Liverpool have both been linked, amid claims he wants assurances about ambitions at his current club before committing his future.

However, Al-Khelaifi vehemently denied that, suggesting it is not possible for Mbappe to have any say over recruitment.

“If he expects guarantees on the quality of the team? If he says that, he wants to win and that’s not a bad thing,” he told L’Equipe last week.

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is adamant Kylian Mbappe will remain at the club beyond the end of the next season

“We are ambitious too. But if he wants to decide who to recruit or not, that is not possible. I repeat, he’s a great boy, I’m sure he says that because he wants a better team to win the Champions League.”

And the 22-year-old has confirmed he has no intention of trying to sway the decision making process and has never put a player upon the transfer committee currently in place.

On transfer rumours, he said in France’s pre-match press conference: “I’m not interested, I’m here to represent France, the most important is the France team, I don’t want to disrupt the group.

“Al-Khelaifi said I wouldn’t pick the recruits? I’ll just answer that. I never asked the president or [sporting director] Leonardo for a single player.

“I am a simple football player, I have to be content with the field. I have never asked for a single player from PSG.”

Al-Khelaifi has made his thoughts very clear on Mbappe’s future, boldly predicting PSG will never sell him, nor allow to leave him on a free – which could happen at the end of next season.

“I’ll be clear, Kylian is going to stay with PSG. We’re never going to sell him and he’ll never leave for free,” Al-Khelaifi added.

“I never give details to the media about ongoing negotiations. All I can say is that it’s progressing well. I hope we’ll find common ground.

“It’s Paris, it’s his country. He has a mission, not just to be a football player, but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital.

“He has everything he needs to extend here. Where can he go? Which club in terms of ambition and project can compete with PSG today?”

Mbappe is widely tipped to be one of the standout players at Euro 2020 this summer, but admitted his preparations have been affected by the public spat with Olivier Giroud.

The veteran Chelsea striker conducted a spiky press conference where he appeared to suggest Mbappe declined to pass to him on several occasions.

Asked about Giroud’s comments ahead of France’s opener with Germany, he added: “It is true that I was a little affected by it. But we are not going to make a big deal about it because we are here to represent France, that is the most important thing.

“What he said didn’t bother me more than that, I’m a striker and I’ve had this feeling 365 times in a game.

“I congratulated him in the locker room, he didn’t say anything to me and then I heard from the press. He didn’t say anything bad. It’s more the fact of talking about it publicly.”
