Kubrat Pulev says Eddie Hearn has ‘got ahead of himself’ after the promoter claimed a deal for the Bulgarian heavyweight to fight Anthony Joshua was ‘nearly done’.

Hearn revealed on Thursday that AJ’s next fight would be in London in June, most probably at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium, with the Brit eager to fight back in the UK after bouts in New York and Saudi Arabia last year.

While Pulev has welcomed a fight in London despite more lucrative offers elsewhere, he believes it shows Joshua is concerned about the match-up – and he insists a deal isn’t done yet.

‘Calm down Champ,’ wrote Pulev on his official website.

‘I see that you are very worried to fight away from home and you are absolutely right to be, haha!

‘But rest assured, if necessary I’m ready to come to London and bust you up in front of your own fans!

‘Until then, tell Mr. Hearn not to get ahead of himself, we do not have a deal yet!’

Speaking about talks with Pulev’s camp, Hearn had told Boxing Social yesterday: ‘Very close to agreeing terms there now. My simple strict instructions from Anthony Joshua were: “Get me back in the UK.”

‘And it’s difficult because Kubrat Pulev wants as much money for this fight as possible. We’ve had offers from the Middle East, the Far East, from Africa, from America and for much more money than he could get in the UK.

‘But sole strict instructions from AJ were: “Give me a homecoming fight, that’s all I want to do, fight in the UK”.

‘So London, Spurs is the likely location. June will be the month, date will be announced soon. Finalising the deal with Top Rank and [Epic Sports’] Ivaylo Gotzev and John Wirt. Nearly done.’
