It’s been confirmed that a sequel to the Oscar-nominated Knives Out is officially in the world – but will Daniel Craig return for another round of murder and mystery?

Written and directed by The Last Jedi auteur Rian Johnson, Knives Out starred the No Time To Die actor as detective Benoit Blanc, whose sent to investigate the killing of a thriller novelist (Christopher Plummer).

Teaming up with a nurse (Ana de Armas), Blanc comes into conflict with the victim’s family – including Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson and a post-Endgame Chris Evans – as he tried to solve the murder.

The film was an immediate, and quite surprising, success when it debuted last year and is up for the Best Original Screenplay gong at this weekend’s Academy Awards.

Now, the CEO of Lionsgate Jon Feltheimer has confirmed that a follow-up film is in the works, although we still don’t know if it will be a direct follow-on from the first film.

According to Deadline, Feltheimer hinted that production for the sequel will begin imminently as he addressed the studio’s third-quarter earnings call.

There’s no word yet on whether Johnson will return to write and direct or Craig will return to star – but let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be a Knives Out sequel without both of them, right?

The Bond star has already spoken out about the possibility of a sequel, and previously said that he would be ‘over the moon’ for a chance to reunite with Johnson.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly about a potential sequel, he said: ‘I’d be over the moon. I mean, I’d do anything for Rian. If he writes something, I’ll do it.

‘Of course I will. Why wouldn’t I? I had a ton of fun doing it. You aim for that every time, you aim for that to work out.’

We also had the chance to chat to the writer-director for the film’s UK release, where Johnson admitted that he couldn’t believe he’d landed the star-studded A-List cast of the film.

‘I can’t believe we got away with it!’ Johnson shared with ‘Every single day [filming] I felt that and the actors did too.’

He shared on everyone’s favourite American super-soldier: ‘Chris Evans, he showed up just ready to have fun with the part. That’s real. That’s a genuine reflection to how it was on set. I was pinching myself.’

The only question that remains is…how do you top that?

Knives Out is available buy and stream now.
