Kathryn Prescott, who suffered horrific injuries after being struck down by a cement mixer last week, moved to the US to continue her acting career where she starred in a number of box office hits as well as taking up photography

Kathryn Prescott stars as Emily Fitch in Skins in 2009
Kathryn Prescott, who is recovering after being hit by a cement truck in New York last week, shot to fame on British drama Skins in 2009 in which she played twin Emily Finch.
Kathryn’s twin Megan played Emily’s sister Katie in the E4 teen drama, but after three series on the show it was only Kathryn who decided to pursue acting.
Megan chose to step away from the camera and focus on her bodybuilding career, while Kathryn, 30, who is older than Megan by six minutes, moved across the pond to follow her dream.
Having first been bitten by the acting bug in 2008 when she featured in the BBC soap opera Doctors, Kathryn’s first role after Skins was servant girl Penelope in CBS TV show Reign about the rise to power of Mary, Queen of Scots.

She then went on to play Aziza in the CBS limited event series, The Dovekeepers before bagging the titular role in MTV’s Finding Carter, which follows a teenager who returns to the family from which she was stolen.
The teen drama aired on MTV for two seasons from July 8, 2014, to December 15, 2015 and was promoted with a huge billboard in Times Square, New York, featuring Kathryn’s face.
Speaking on Young Hollywood in 2014 about the billboard the actress joked: “I wanted to vomit.”

Although she then admitted that she went with the director and the creator of the show to see the billboard on Sunset Boulevard and they ended up “taking pictures.”
When asked how she felt about selfies, Kathryn said: “I never think ‘I’m looking hot today’ and take a selfie,” to which the interviewer joked: “You’re really not an L.A girl are you.”
While maybe not your typical LA gal, Kathryn was making a name for herself in Hollywood going on to film Dreamworks’ family comedy-drama A Dog’s Journey in 2019, in which she played Molly.
As well as acting, Kathryn also pursued photography in LA, hosting pictures of her famous co-stars in a range of beautiful black and white shots on her website.

In an interview with the Evening Standard Kathryn, whose mother was a photographer, said she used her Skins earnings to buy a proper camera and learned how to use it by working unpaid as an assistant for well-known photographers.
Excited by the freedom the medium gave her she said. “If you’re an actor you’re at the mercy of a script. You’ve got far more control if you’re the photographer.”

In tragic news for her family, Kathryn was struck by a cement truck last week while crossing a road in New York City. She suffered multiple bone fractures, including her pelvis, both legs, a foot and her left hand.
Her sister Megan took to Instagram to relay the devastating moment she heard the news.
“I received the most terrifying phone call I’ve ever received in my life on Tuesday evening.
“After fighting through complex surgery some of Kathryn’s injuries include: broken pelvis in two places, both of her legs, her foot and her left hand. She is incredibly lucky to be alive. She narrowly avoided paralysis.
“The doctors are hopeful that she will make a full recovery but this will only be possible with the correct care right now,” she said.
Kathryn’s condition was thought to be life-threatening, however her mum has said her daughter is now starting to make a recovery.
Speaking to the Mail Online on the doorstep of the family home: Theresa said: “It’s absolutely awful. Thankfully she’s off life-threatening status.”
In what is welcome news for the whole family Kathryn’s sister Megan has now been granted access to visit her sister in the US where she remains in intensive care.
