Kate Garraway's 'TV return confirmed' just days after beloved husband Derek's funeral

Kate Garraway will reportedly return to Good Morning Britain on Monday morning as she gives a live interview from her home. It is understood that she will then return to host the show on Thursday alongside her friend and long-term co-star, Ben Shephard.

Kate’s brave TV return comes just days after her husband Derek Draper’s funeral. The 56-year-old reportedly told her friends that she is hoping to keep busy as she grieves her beloved husband.

A source told The Sun: “Kate has had an incredibly rough past couple of months, and it has taken its toll mentally and physically.

“But she is a workhorse, and journalism, being on live TV, runs through her blood — it’s what she knows and loves.”

They added that the team at GMB has been “hugely supportive” and is “excited” to have her back. While she is understood to be scheduled to return full-time, ITV has told her she can take time off when she needs and will be providing a duty-of-care package.

The source continued: “After caring for Derek and her family for almost four years, Kate needs to get back to some sort of normality…It also goes without saying that being a full-time carer for Derek had a massive impact on her financial situation.”

While it is “not a decision Kate has taken lightly” the source claimed that she “needs to work to provide for their kids and bring stability back into their lives”.

Kate’s last appearance on Good Morning Britain was on December 8, 2023. In that same week, Derek flew to Mexico for specialist treatment and suffered a cardiac arrest.

His health then took a turn for the worse and Kate announced on January 5, 2024, that he had lost his almost four-year-long battle with long Covid. He was just 56-years-old.
