Karl Stefanovic accuses husky-voiced Miley Cyrus of ‘smoking too many darts’ during a live interview on the Today show – leaving his colleagues speechless
Today show host Karl Stefanovic mocked American pop star Miley Cyrus for her distinctive husky voice during a live interview on Tuesday.
Karl left his colleagues speechless when he joked that Miley, 27, sounded liked she’d been smoking too many ‘darts’ – an Australian slang term for cigarettes.
The 45-year-old presenter made the bizarre comment after Miley had just finished chatting to Today’s entertainment reporter Brooke Boney about her upcoming bushfire charity concert.

After wrapping up the interview, Brooke told Karl that Miley had been responsible for her boyfriend, Cody Simpson, being late for his appearance on the Today show the previous week.
‘It could have been the fact she was having 100 darts!’ Karl replied while pretending to puff on an invisible cigarette.
Impersonating Miley, he added in a raspy voice: ‘I’ll see you guys in Australia!’

The studio erupted with awkward laughter as Brooke said nervously: ‘No comment! No comment! Nothing to do with me!’
‘Stop it!’ laughed co-anchor Allison Langdon.
But Karl couldn’t resist taking another swipe, saying: ‘She sounds like one of The Simpson ladies. What are their names? Thelma?’

‘Selma and Patty,’ Brooke responded, referring to Marge Simpson’s gruff-voiced, chain-smoking older sisters on the American cartoon series.
Karl’s jokes were rather surprising, given that he is good friends with Miley’s boyfriend, Australian singer Cody Simpson.
The two men even work out at the gym together when they’re both in Sydney.

Like Miley, the 23-year-old songwriter was subjected to some gentle ribbing from Karl, who mocked him for his slight Californian accent.
‘It’s outrageous! It’s un-Australian, Cody!’ he told his guest.
