Kanye West believes public perceptions towards mental health are changing and the word ‘crazy’ will not be used so lightly in the future.
The Gold Digger rapper has recently thrown his own struggles with mental health into the spotlight, chatting about it in depth on David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction earlier this year.
Now he has shed more light on the issue in an interview with Forbes, where he’s adamant the word ‘crazy’ will stop being used so carelessly.
‘”Crazy” is a word that’s not gonna be used loosely in the future,’ the Yeezy owner said.
‘Understand that this is actually a condition that people can end up in, be born into, driven into and go in and out.
‘And there’s a lot of people that have been called that ‘C’ word that have ended up on this cover.’
Kanye’s battle with his mental health has presented him with massive challenges at times.
In 2016, while claiming to be $53 million in debt, Kanye cancelled the remainder of his lucrative Saint Pablo Tour.
Suffering with extreme sleep deprivation and temporary psychosis, the fashion designer spent a week in an LA hospital.
Kanye has cited that he has bipolar on several occasions but has also referred to his mental health as a ‘superpower’ that releases his imagination.
In the Letterman interview, the Heartless star explained that mental health should be treated as importantly as physical health.
He said: ‘This is a sprained brain, like having a sprained ankle.
‘And if someone has a sprained ankle, you’re not gonna push on him more.
‘With us, once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse. They do everything possible.
‘They got us to that point, and then they do everything to make it worse.’
