Mimi Luzon is a big cheese in the world of skincare. Her high-profile clients (who include Naomi Campbell, Kaia Gerber, Irina Shayk, Adriana Lima and the Hadid sisters to name a few), have kept her booked up back-to-back. And her gold foil face masks (available on Net-A-Porter for a splashy £275) have become an essential in the skincare cabinets of Hollywood’s elite – regularly popping up on their Instagram feeds.

Now, though, having had to slow down and tuck herself away at home, we finally got the chance to tap the leading facialist up for tips. Even better, we extracted ways to translate her top-notch expertise into things we can do at home to give ourselves a gold-standard, A-list-approved skincare routine for free.

This is how, says Mimi…

The morning:

“Start your day by cleansing your face with a cleansing foam or any other delicate product with a suitable PH level [try Avene’s Mattifying Cleansing Foam or Cetaphil’s Gentle Cleansing Foam]. I recommended starting your morning routine with an enzymatic exfoliation (at least twice a week) to remove dead skin cells and encourage skin glow [we love Elemis’ Papaya Enzyme Peel].

After cleansing, it is essential to use a suitable skin serum [pick one with your skincare concerns in mind]. Afterwards apply a good moisturiser and massage it into the skin starting from the centre of the face and working outwards.

Eye cream is a step often forgotten; however it’s an incredibly vital one. It is especially important in times when our sleeping patterns are disrupted: apply in a reverse C-shape [starting from the inner under-eye corner and patting it around and up to your brow bone]. It is crucial to use a firming cream specifically for the neck, as the skin in this area is very delicate and deserves extra attention.”

The afternoon:

“When you have some extra time invest in masks and use them as much as possible. I currently do a different one every day. Following Eastern skincare practices, it’s extremely beneficial for our skin to use a facemask with a different function every day; it could be firming, luminising, moisturising or detoxifying. Of course, you can use any mask you have in the house every other day, or you can make your own treatments at home.

Green tea mask:
This is an excellent toxin cleanser. It enhances skin tone and gives skin an instant glow.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of green tea
  • 2 cups of rice flour
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of honey

Make an ointment and apply to the skin for 20 minutes, massage into the skin, and rinse with water.

Oatmeal mask
This works as an amazing exfoliating mask. This mask reduces inflammation and works as an enzyme exfoliator. If you have sensitive skin, you can omit the lemon.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of boiled Oatmeal
  • 1 squeeze of lemon

Cool it down, apply to skin, wait 15 minutes and rinse off with water.

Turmeric mask
Excellent mask for glowing and softening of the skin.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of flour
  • 1 spoonful of turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon
  • 1 spoonful of milk

Mix everything to create ointment on the skin for 20 minutes.

The evening:

“Our night time routine is hugely important and is often considered the best time for skincare and the greatest time to use active ingredients. When we are sleeping, the skin is at work and the process of skin regeneration is at it’s prime. Instead of tossing over leftover serums on your hands, mix and apply to the skin, just make sure you aren’t mixing active acids with oils. It is recommended to create a serum cocktail and apply it to the skin before bed. This is a perfect time to tidy up the bathroom cabinet and used everything before it expires.

Any superfluous rich moisturising creams that you won’t use on your face, apply to your elbows or thighs instead of wasting.”

Et voila, spa sesh at home.
