Jurgen Klopp believes Neco Williams could eventually be capable of challenging Trent Alexander-Arnold for a place in Liverpool’s side following their victory over Leicester City on Boxing Day.
Alexander-Arnold produced one of his best displays for Liverpool as he provided two assists and scored in the 4-0 win which pushed Klopp’s side 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Williams, meanwhile, was given his senior debut by Klopp in the EFL Cup earlier this season and has been training regularly with Liverpool’s first team.
And Klopp believes the 18-year-old has looked ‘pretty promising’ so far.
Asked if Alexander-Arnold is the best full-back in the world, Klopp replied: ‘I’m not too interested, to be honest.
‘We are not looking for one, let me put it like this.
‘We are trying to create our own one in the shadows a little bit of these boys, Neco Williams for example who looks pretty promising.
‘Trent played a really good game but it wasn’t a perfect perfect game.
‘But it was really good and was decisive and helped us a lot.
‘We know how important his crosses are for us, and that’s absolutely exceptional.
‘I can’t compare other right-backs as I watch pretty much only Liverpool games, so I don’t see the others.’
