Jurgen Klopp advised not to sign transfer target because he's 'wrong for Liverpool'

Jurgen Klopp has been advised NOT to sign Nicolas Pepe this summer because he “doesn’t look like a Liverpool player”.

That’s the opinion of former Reds defender Steve Nicol, who isn’t convinced the 24-year-old Frenchman is cut out to play for Liverpool in the top flight.

Pepe has attracted attention from the Premier League’s big six, but Liverpool are not currently looking to make a bid for the Lille striker just yet.

And Nicol is hoping this remains the case.

Speaking on ESPN, Nicol said: “I really don’t get this one. Yes he’s had a good season but he just doesn’t look like a Liverpool player to me.

“He’s a little unorthodox, he looks gangly. He has got it done, the stats bear that out.

“Unfortunately it is Ligue 1 and I’m not a huge fan of Ligue 1, I don’t think the standard is particularly great.

“Before the season kicks off we know PSG have won the league. I’m not sure of this.

“I’m not sure where it’s coming from to be honest but I don’t think this guy fits in with Liverpool.”

Klopp is happy with the current crop of players at Liverpool

Liverpool do not appear to be in the market for any one player this summer with Klopp happy with his Champions League-winning squad.

In fact, the club believe they are only being linked to Pepe to help drive up his transfer fee for the benefit of the player and Lille.
