Designer June Ambrose has AWKWARD flub as she asks if late designer Kate Spade was attending the CFDA Awards
June Ambrose had an embarrassing miscue at the CFDA Awards.
The 47-year-old designer was interviewing influencer Hannah Bronfman on a livestream from the red carpet at the event at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, when she mistakenly asked Bronfman if Spade, who took her own life last year, was going to be at the event Monday.
Spade tragically took her life in June of 2018 in her New York City apartment, and her widower, Andy, subsequently said the fashion icon had a yearslong battle with depression and anxiety.
Wanna get away? June Ambrose, 47, (R) mistakenly asked influencer Hannah Bronfman if late designer Kate Spade, who took her own life last year, was going to be at the CFDA Awards Monday during a livestream from the red carpet of the event
The misunderstanding unfurled during entrances as Bronfman told Ambrose that she wore a Spade dress and accompanied the late designer’s team, including creative director Nicola Glass, to the event.
Ambrose said Spade was ‘another one of [her] favorite American designers,’ asking Bronfman, ‘Are you here with Kate? Is she here?’
She asked Bronfman, ‘Did you come before her or did she skip by me?’ to which a startled Bronfman replied, ‘Well, the team from Kate is here, we’re four.’
Ambrose acknowledged the flub later in the broadcast, saying, ‘It has been my honor and pleasure to host, screw up and cause chaos tonight on this carpet for you,’ adding, ‘I hope you enjoyed and learned as much as I did.’
