Julio Iglesias has lost an ongoing paternity court case after a judge ruled that he is the ‘biological father’ of a 43-year-old man, Javier Sanchez.

The 75-year-old Latin singer, who is also father to popstar Enrique Iglesias, had battled for three decades over the paternity case with Maria Edite, whom he had an affair with in 1975.

According to Judge Jose Miguel Bort, it is ‘not unlikely nor preposterous’ that ‘sexual relations’ took place between Julio and Maria during their week-long affair.

Julio now has 20 working days to appeal the judge’s decision. He was not present for the court ruling.

Judge Bort said there was a ‘great physical resemblance between father and son’ and that DNA proved that Javier is not the son of Maria’s former husband Sanchez, the BBC reports.

Previous tests showed that Javier and Julio’s son Julio Iglesias Jr were brothers.

If Julio is successful in his appeal, the case could be sent to the European Court of Human Rights.

In 1992, Javier won a court ruling that decided Julio was the father, but that was overturned and Julio’s lawyers argued that the case should not be heard again.

Julio is father to eight other children – three from his eight-year marriage to Isabel Preysler and five with his current wife, Miranda Rijnsburger, whom he’s been married to since 2010.

While leaving the courtroom last week, Javier’s mother Maria urged Julio take the DNA test which he has refused, and acknowledge the ‘wonderful son I am very proud of’.

Julio is regarded as one of the most successful Latin artists of all time and has sold more than 300 million records.

In February, he was honoured with the Grammy lifetime achievement award.

Back in 2007, Enrique, 44, revealed he had a strained relationship with his father after a two-year falling out.

The Hero singer told People: ‘The fact of the matter is that we seldom speak.

‘Yes, we are distanced from one another and each lives his own life. And that we see little of each other, yes, we see little of each other.’
