Jose Mourinho delivers verdict on Man Utd successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has lavished praise on his successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following his ex-club’s “phenomenal” Champions League victory at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.

Solskjaer helped United pull off one of the greatest comebacks in the competition’s history as his side sealed a dramatic 3-1 win in Paris to go through on away goals despite losing the first leg 2-0.

The Norwegian has overseen a remarkable turnaround since replacing the sacked Mourinho in December, as United have won 14 of 17 games in all competitions and hauled themselves back into the top-four battle in the Premier League.

The latest result came a day after Ajax pulled off a similar shock result by knocking holders Real Madrid out of the Champions League – and Mourinho has hailed both teams.

Speaking to RT , he said: “In terms of players, I was immediately thinking about [Dusan] Tadic, because he was a key player in that amazing match.

“But I think independent of the performances, Ajax and Manchester United results are phenomenal results, and if the responsibility in the bad days is for the managers, the responsibility of the good days is then also for the managers.

“So for me, [Erik] ten Hag from Ajax and Solskjaer from Manchester United. Incredible results, so credit to them.”

Mourinho has been out of a job since being sacked by United last year, but has made no secret of his desire to return to management soon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has worked wonders at the Red Devils

The Portuguese has recently been linked with a return to Real Madrid, a team he managed from 2010-13, this summer.

He remained tight-lipped on that potential switch, revealing that nothing has been agreed wit any club just yet.

“Honestly I don’t know, speculations are speculations,” he added.

“I never hide it, I’m in a very calm situation. I’m not desperate to work at all, I’m studying, I’m doing things that I can’t do when I’m working.

“I’m on this side of the cameras, which is a good perspective for me too.

“I don’t know, probably I hope to be working in the summer. Working happily in the next pre-season, June, July.

“But there is nothing at all to say. I promise if one day there is anything to say, I will let you know.”
