Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson extended his sympathies to Virgil van Dijk after devastating news that he will miss the majority of the Premier League season.

The Dutchman was forced out of the Merseyside derby after a nasty challenge from Jordan Pickford and scan results have since shown that Van Dijk has torn his Anterior Cruciate Ligament.

The defender is expected to be out for a minimum of five months and he’s in danger of missing the remainder of the campaign, as many sufferers are kept on the sidelines for up to a year.

Van Dijk’s injury is a huge blow to Liverpool’s chances of silverware, both at home and abroad.

Nevertheless, Henderson says the Liverpool squad will be waiting for their talisman to return in an inspirational message to the former Celtic defender.

‘The comeback is always stronger than the set back…’ wrote Henderson.

‘Recover well my brother, We’ll be waiting for you’.

Though a devastating blow to Liverpool and Van Dijk, the Dutchman’s injury will give the likes of Manchester City renewed hope that they can reclaim the title.

Van Dijk’s played every single minute in the Premier League for Liverpool since featuring against Huddersfield in January 2018 and he’s arguably the most influential player in the division.
