John Legend and Chrissy Teigen release a new Christmas single – but there’s a catch

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have released a cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Happy Christmas (War Is Over) – but fans can only listen on Amazon Music.

The singer, 40, and the model, 33, today revealed they have sung the festive classic alongside their three-year-old daughter Luna.

Speaking about the single, Legend said: “Recording this song was such an inspiration, and I got to include my wife and my daughter in the process.

“We all came together to sing a beautiful song that needs to be heard, and I’m thrilled for my fans to be able to hear it on Amazon Music.

Festive fun: The singer has also released an expanded version of his Christmas album, A Legendary Christmas: The Deluxe Edition (Amazon Music)

“In their original version, John Lennon and Yoko Ono were speaking to that desire for peace, and I think it’s a good message for us right now.”

The duo recorded it at Blakeslee Studio in North Hollywood, California, and it includes harmonies from the children’s choir of not for profit organisation, The Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center.

Teigen and Legend have not revealed why they have only chosen to release the song with Amazon Music, but it would not be the first time a musician has chosen to partner exclusively with a streaming service.

Ahead of the release of her fifth album, 1989, Taylor Swift also said she would not be streaming it on Spotify and Apple Music after a row over royalties.

She has since made her back catalogue available on Apple Music after the company changed its policy in 2015 .

The singer also put her albums back on Spotify in 2017 to celebrate selling 10 million copies of 1989.
