Joe Sugg has revealed he was ‘on the fence’ about Strictly Come Dancing to begin with, as he firmly shuts down rumours about any other reality show appearances.

So we won’t catch him in the I’m A Celeb jungle any time soon, then.

The vlogger, who reached the final of the much-loved dancing competition, explained that he’s always thought if there was one show he’d be prepared to do, it would be Strictly.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk with his YouTube pal Caspar Lee, he recalled: ‘This was back when I was living with [Caspar], when we were living in our old house. I did think about it back in the day.

‘I said if there was ever one I would do, it would be Strictly because it’s such like a feel-good show, a big family show, it’s the most watched one as well, which is a big, big commitment and a big step to do.’

‘My mum watches it in South Africa,’ offered Caspar.

‘It’s watched in different countries, and I just thought, “this is the time,”‘ Joe continued, before reflecting on his nerves before the show.

‘I was so nervous to do it, I was so on the fence about doing it, because of thinking, “What could happen if I do it?” That kind of thing.’

However, what happened was that the 27-year-old reached the final, captured the nation’s hearts, and got himself a girlfriend for good measure.

‘I had a go, and it turned out to be the best decision of my life, which was good!’ he laughed.

The YouTube star, who currently boasts a following of more than eight million, previously revealed he’d predicted getting a girlfriend on the show – months before he met Dianne Buswell.

Mentioning that he drew up a pros and cons list, he explained: ‘I also put down: potential girlfriend. I might get a girlfriend out of it. Who knows! The pros massively outweighed the cons.’

And the list wasn’t the only method he used to decide, also revealing he went to his sister Zoe Sugg – known online as Zoella – to get her opinion. ‘I couldn’t tell anyone but I did speak to my sister because I wanted to know her opinion from a YouTuber perspective, as well as my family,’ he added to BBC TalentWorks.

But not everyone was on board at first, with the 27-year-old recalling: ‘I knew my mates would rip it into me, and they did, but that’s what a real mate is. They are really supportive, but they gave me a lot of stick!’

What are friends for, right?
