Jodie Comer interview: Killing Eve actress left red-faced as Ellen DeGeneres awkwardly ‘questions’ her accent abilities

Killing Eve star Jodie Comer was left feeling embarrassed after a very awkward chat with Ellen DeGeneres.

The Liverpudlian adopts different accents as part of her character, assassin Villanelle, on the BBC drama.

Attempting to praise the star on her previous role as Kate Parks on Doctor Foster, DeGeneres referred to her “American accent” on the show, despite the character being British.

She asked: “In Doctor Foster you had an American accent, right?”

Cringing in surprise, Comer responded: “No she was British…”

DeGeneres immediately flushed red with embarrassment before laughing awkwardly.

Comer added: “Oh I didn’t do a good job there. She was British, she was from London.”

The pair then attempted to laugh off the incident as they moved on to discussing the multiple languages her violent character on Killing Eve speaks.

Comer admitted the process of mastering different accents and phrases was far more difficult than she had anticipated during the auditions.

She said: “She has a lot of accents and languages. And in the audition process I was like ‘oh yeah, fine’, and then when I got on set it was like, ‘oh, this is real!’”

Comer’s appearance comes a day after Killing Eve fans in the UK were left outraged after finding out they would have to wait months before watching the show.

The BBC is yet to announce an official air date but yesterday confirmed America will watch all eight episodes first and then the UK will get a bulk release around June.

The broadcaster told The Guardian that the decision came as a way of ensuring the whole series could be added to iPlayer at once as they felt UK audiences would enjoy it more if they could “binge” watch instead of waiting each week.

But fans expressed fears over coming across spoilers online a week after showrunner Emerald Fennell told viewers not to “feel safe” because both Comer’s character and her co-star Sandra Oh’s Eve could “die in any episode”.
