Jeremy Corbyn mocked on Twitter after announcing plan to fund bus routes with picture of a tram

JEREMY Corbyn has been seriously mocked on Twitter after he announced plans to fund bus routes with a picture of a tram.

The Labour leader used a photo of himself posing proudly in the middle of a packed tram while sporting a huge grin, for his proposal.

Corbyn plans to reinvest in the public transport to “reverse the cuts made to 3,000 bus routes [made] by the Tories since 2010.

But his ‘picture fail’ appeared to generate more attention the new proposal, with many questioning his state of mind.

His post read: “I was so proud to announce that Labour will reverse the Conservatives’ cuts to 3,000 bus routes.

“We use buses far more than any other form of public transport – 4.5 billion journeys every year.

“These are vital services which we won’t just restore, we’ll invest in more.”

One Twitter user said: “Man thinks he’s on a bus.”

Another simply asked: “So why post a picture of a tram?”

But one user tried to back the Labour leader, with the comment: “It might be one of those bendy busses.”

And hidden amid dozens of comments like, “you aren’t even on a bus”, one user actually questioned his proposal.

He said: “Perhaps you’d care to explain how Labour intends to do this.

“All Labour talks about is how much they are going to do but with no explanation of where the resources are coming from!”

The tweet came after he paid a visit to Nottinghamshire earlier this week.

He praised Nottingham City Transport for its council-owned bus company, which he hoped could be rolled out across the country.

Analysis by the Campaign for Better Transport shows more than 3,000 bus routes have been cut back or withdrawn since 2010, amid a 45% reduction in local authority bus budgets.

Department for Transport figures show the number of local bus passenger journeys in England fell by 85 million or 1.9% to 4.36 billion in the year ending March 2018.
