But his seething backbenchers are demanding he carries on dodging a poll and instead back their plot to hold another Brexit referendum first.

Speaking at a rally in Northamptonshire, Mr Corbyn told Boris Johnson: “It’s simple – obey the law, take no-deal off the table and then let’s have the election.”

He said Labour will back a second referendum after a Labour government had been elected.

The hard-left party boss also used the speech to make a staggering £1trillion worth of spending pledges if he moves into No10.

But in an astonishing break with her leader, Emily Thornberry said she is “concerned” at his plan to back a snap vote.

The shadow foreign secretary told the BBC: “My concern about if we had a general election, is it would be a kind of quasi-referendum, that it would be all about in or out, what kind of deal.

“And so to a certain extent I can see the sense in trying to have a referendum first.”

Meanwhile, Labour MPs are plotting to try to pass a law calling another Brexit referendum when the Commons sits on ‘super Saturday’.

In what would be an explosive move, they want to seize control of parliamentary business so they can attach a second referendum to any deal Boris Johnson strikes.

If the PM does not have a Brexit deal, they will try to bring back a version of Theresa May’s and try to pass that with the condition that it is put to another referendum.

Labour MP Peter Kyle told The Sun the “overwhelming” number of Labour MPs are united in demanding a second referendum before a general election.

He said: “If we go to the electorate right now we will be empty handed on Brexit.

“It would end up being a plague on both your houses election.”

He said it would be “strange” for Mr Corbyn to trigger an election which would “divide our party so profoundly”.

Labour will grant Boris Johnson a General Election on November 26 if Brexit isn’t delivered by Halloween
