Jeremy Clarkson: Grand Tour host takes swipe at Formula One reporter ‘You’re still alive!’

Jeremy Clarkson, 59, took to the micro-blogging and took a swipe at sports journalist Maurice Hamilton after he replied to a scathing tweet posted by the Formula One correspondent. The BBC Radio 5 Live Grand Prix commentator wrote: “Someone should put @JeremyClarkson out of his misery. F1 has many problems but we don’t need this sad old g*t with trendy bracelets trying to tap into popular opinion just because no one watches him any more. He’s never liked F1. 15 years ago he said we should watch touring cars.” In response to the Formula One journalist’s tweet, Jeremy took a dig at the writer and said in view of his 7.2 million followers: “Maurice! You’re still alive!” Maurice’s post was in response to a recent video which was posted to Jeremy’s social media page saying that modern day Formula One sport has lost its excitement and they can all “F**k off”.

“I’d far rather watch these grow than watch a Formula One race, and I love F1 racing,” Jeremy said on DriveTribe, pointing to a plant pot.

“I want to see [Gilles] Villeneuve and [Rene] Arnoux wheel-to-wheel on the last lap of the French Grand Prix and if Ferrari don’t like that they can f**k off.

“In fact, Mercedes can f**k off.”

He added: “They can all f**k off. Let’s turn it into a proper sport again and not some health and safety exercise.”

Fans appeared divided by Jeremy’s comments, but many did agree with the sports fan.

One person said: “To be honest @JeremyClarkson has a point, it’s very overrated now and not a great watch.”

Another person commented: “Watching F1 today is like watching the Titanic movie, you know how it ends and you know you are wasting your time.”

While a third person added: “I used to love watching F1, about 20 years ago. It’s gone totally downhill since all the rules about having the same cars and same engines and same tyres… what is the point of that? Also Clarkson is allowed his view and allowed to share it, free speech and all that.”

Others appeared less in favour with his opinion, as one person said: “There have been some good races. Unfair on the participants for me to say it’s all been bad.”

Another person added: “There have been a few fun races.”
