Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in an epic new sci-fi comedy on Netflix

Breaking news: Jennifer Lawrence is set to make her Netflix debut in new sci-fi comedy, Don’t Look Up, and the world has gone into meltdown over the epic announcement.

The upcoming film, estimated for release later this year, will follow two astronomers who venture on a media tour to warn mankind of an approaching asteroid that threatens to destroy the planet.

Vice and The Big Short’s Adam McKay is lined up to write and produce the film. “I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence. She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite talent’,” he announced earlier this week. ‘And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.” With eight Academy Awards under his belt, Don’t Look Up is unlikely to disappoint.

Scott Stuber, head of Netflix films, added: “Adam has always had great timing when it comes to making smart, relevant and irreverent films that depict our culture. Even if he somehow ends up predicting planet Earth’s imminent demise, we’re excited to add this to our slate before it all comes to an end.”

2020 is already set to be a major year for Jennifer who has just wrapped production on Lila Neugebauer’s untitled drama for A24. Later this year, the award-winning actress is starring in Hollywood blockbuster, Red, White and Water, which she is producing under her new company Excellent Cadaver. She will also star in and produce Mob Girl which is to be directed by Paolo Sorrentino for Universal.

While no release date has been confirmed for Don’t Look Up, filming is expected to begin this April.
