James Maddison desperate for Man Utd transfer and ‘would have joined years ago’ if it were up to Leicester star

JAMES MADDISON is desperate to sign for Manchester United and “would have joined years ago” if it were up to him, according to reports.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been chasing the Leicester playmaker, 23, all season and is set to bring him to Old Trafford as part of a monster £274m summer spree.

The one-cap England star is set to join alongside Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish in what would be an incredible triple coup.

And now a source has told the Manchester Evening News that Maddison would have joined even earlier if he’d been allowed to.

Maddison is under contract at Leicester until 2023 and is said to still be considering putting pen to paper on a new deal.

Part of the confusion for the No10 revolves around United’s January signing of Bruno Fernandes.

But Man Utd are adamant they are still chasing both Maddison AND Grealish, despite bringing in the Portuguese star in the January window.

Solskjaer is thought to be considering playing Fernandes in a deeper role, with Maddison in the No10 slot and Grealish cutting in from the left wing.

Reports claim United are set to make a minimum of THREE signings this summer, having brought in Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James last year.

Maddison – who joined Leicester from Norwich in a £23m move in 2018 – already has nine goals to his name this season.

And he’s been a vital cog in Brendan Rodgers’ side soaring to third in the Premier League standings – way ahead of eighth-placed Man Utd.

Solskjaer has already raided the Foxes in recent windows, bringing in Maguire for £80m last summer.

Maddison could cost even more than that, but Solskjaer will almost certainly rake in some additional funds by selling off some deadwood this summer.
