James Jordan wins Dancing On Ice by beating Wes Nelson in final

James Jordan has won Dancing On Ice 2019.

The former Strictly star and his skating partner Alexandra Schauman beat Wes Nelson and his partner Vanessa Bauer in the final.

“I can’t believe it,” said Jordan. “I couldn’t have given any more.”

The voting public decided that James was their winner ahead of Love Island’s Wes Nelson, who was runner-up, while X Factor singer Saara Aalto finished in third place.

Nelson was the hot favourite to win so, when James was announced in the studio, he nearly collapsed in shock.

He looked close to tears but managed to compose himself for long enough to speak to show hosts Holly and Phil.

Earlier, Nelson and Aalto opened the finale of the show by scoring 10s across the board.

The pair received top marks of 40 out of 40 from judges Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean, Ashley Banjo and Jason Gardiner as the final of the ITV show got under way on Sunday.

Jordan lagged behind on 39 out of 40, after a performance which the panel felt lacked some of his usual sparkle.

However, hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield pointed out that the former Strictly star did especially well as he had a shoulder injury.

Love Islander Nelson said it was “an honour” even to be in the final, in the presence of “legends” such as Torvill and Dean.

James got good scores from the judges in his first two performances before a fantastic Bolero.

Speaking before the result was announced, he said: “I am so so happy. Whoever wins regardless it’s been the best final ever.”
