James Bond spin-off: Is Lashana Lynch getting a SPIN-OFF? Actress speaks out

Lashana Lynch is one of the new editions to the Bond franchise, as seen in the new No Time to Die trailer. Her character has been met with a lot of speculation, including her status as a 00 agent. After giving a tantalising tease at a press conference, Lynch has set tongues wagging even more about her character.

Is Lashana Lynch getting a spin-off?

Lashana Lynch has started one huge speculation that she may be the subject of a 007 spin-off – or perhaps will play an even larger role in the franchise after No Time to Die.

When asked by the hosts of Good Morning America whether she is, as has been suggested, taking over as 007, she replied: “She’s definitely a 00-agent.

“Nomi will do a whole lot of shaking up for this franchise… She’s wicked.”

Of course, such a simple phrase has set the cogs whirring in fans, as they start to think whether it could actually be Lynch to take on the tinker of 007, and possibly even be the new James Bond.

However, this does seem unlikely, as Barbara Broccoli, custodian of the franchise, has made clear she would not like to see a woman take over the role.

Speaking with The Guardian, she said: “Bond is male. He’s a male character.

“He was written as a male and I think he’ll probably stay as a male.

“And that’s fine. We don’t have to turn male characters into women.

“Let’s just create more female characters and make the story fit those female characters.”

So, with the door firmly shut on the idea of a female Bond, what could happen with Lynch’s character?

One theory is that, when Daniel Craig exits the role, a new Bond will be found to replace him, while Lynch will be a continuation of the adventures from No Time to Die.

Her character is clearly a strong agent who is not to be messed with, as she told Bond in the trailer to No Time to Die.

When he arrived back in MI6, she told him: “The world’s moved on, Commander Bond.

“So stay in your lane. You get in my way and I will put a billet in your knee. The one that works.”

There is a flirtation between them, as Moneypenny declares: “I knew you two would get along.”

Nomi is later seen shooting machine guns, causing explosions and using her sexual prowess to get where she needs to go – much like Bond himself.

It may be that, as the franchise moves on to a new chapter, with a new James Bond, Nomi will occupy the gap with a new 00 franchise, perhaps even focused on MI6 itself.

One thing we do know is she will absolutely be central to the Bond world for a little while longer.

But whether that will be through her own films, or as a fixture of James Bond is yet to be discovered.

Who will play the new James Bond?

The latest odds have put Outlander’s Sam Heughan as the clear favourite to play Bond, with Ladbrokes putting him at 5/2, ahead of James Norton, Richard Madden and Tom Hiddleston, who are all sitting at 5/1.

Despite a great deal of speculation about the franchise introducing a non-white Bond, the odds place the only non-white contender, Idris Elba, at 10/1, below Tom Hardy, Michael Fassbender and Chris Hemsworth.

No Time to Die will come to cinemas on April 2, 2020
