ITV This Morning's Alison Hammond halts show amid backlash to replacing Paul O'Grady

This Morning presenter Alison Hammond has taken over the reins from the late Paul O’Grady to host For The Love of Dogs. On Monday the television star, 49, told Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley that she was overjoyed to fill the boots of the iconic comedian after taking over his show.

Alison bursted on to the set after she appeared on Lorraine – which is filmed in the studio next door. She usually hosts This Morning on a Friday along with Dermot O’Leary.

The star said: “Wow this feels weird I don’t have an earpiece in.” During her brief appearance, Ben quizzed her on her latest role working with Battersea Dog’s and Cat’s home.

She said that she was “happy to continue Paul’s work” after gushing over the pooches. Alison told Ben, 49, and Cat, 47, that she had fallen in love with a chihuahua and “loves” the little dogs.

She added: “I love the ones with one eye, one leg”. Ben interrupted her and questioned: “One leg?” Alison then burst out laughing, correcting herself: “Three-legged dogs.”
