Instagram may finally roll out a seek bar to let you skip through videos and rewind

Instagram may finally roll out a seek bar to let you skip through videos and rewind

  • Firm is testing a seek bar that would be at the top of videos in the Instagram feed
  • Tool would allow users to skip forward or rewind backward to points of a video
  • Users have been requesting a seek bar in the Instagram app for many months

Tired of sitting through Instagram videos from start to finish? The app may soon have a solution.

Instagram is testing out adding a seek bar to videos posted on users’ feeds.

The feature was spotted by eagle-eyed app researcher Jane Manchun Wong.

In a clip shared by Wong, a bar would appear at the top of a video.

Users can then skip forward to a point in a video, as well as rewind the footage to restart it.

Currently, users have to rewatch the video from start to finish to see something again.

Instagram already allows users to do this on videos posted to IGTV.

Many users have requested that it introduce the same seek bar to Instagram videos posted in the feed.

It’s unclear if Instagram plans to bring a seek bar to Stories or when the feature will appear on user’s timelines, however.

The move comes as Instagram is reportedly considering bringing IGTV videos to the Instagram feed.

In February, the firm announced it’s putting clips from IGTV right into users’ feeds, so that they can view them as they scroll.

‘When there’s a new video from someone you follow, you can tap from your feed to watch the full video in IGTV,’ the firm said.

A short promotional video for update shows that users can click on the clip to view the full IGTV video.

Many complained on Twitter that the update was essentially forcing them to watch IGTV content against their will.

WHAT CELEBRITIES AND CREATORS WILL BE FEATURED ON IGTV?

Instagram took the wraps off of its long-form video hub, IGTV, on Wednesday.

Videos will appear in the Explore tab, as well as a standalone app that’s launching soon.

Here’s a sample of users that will be featured in IGTV:

  • Selena Gomez
  • Kim Kardashian West
  • Kevin Hart
  • Ross Butler
  • Virgil Abloh
  • Lele Pons
  • Bryce Xavier
  • Manny Gutierrez
  • Dominic Chambrone
  • Tyler Blevins, aka Ninja
