I Hate Suzie: Billie Piper reteams with Secret Diary Of A Call Girl writer for new show

Billie Piper is reuniting with Secret Diary Of A Call Girl writer Lucy Prebble for a new series called I Hate Suzie, set to air on Sky at some point in 2020.

Prebble has most recently been writing and co-executive producing HBO’s critically acclaimed series Succession, which has just been renewed for a third season.

Piper will star in the new 8-part show, said to be a “bold, bracing, funny drama about the moment in life when the mask slips, asking if any us can survive being well and truly ‘known'”. It follows Piper’s character Suzie Pickles, a fading star whose phone is hacked, leading to “compromising” photos being leaked to the public.

“It’s taken years to finally get Lucy, my long-term GF and favourite writer in London – to work with me again,” said Piper about the project’s announcement. “We feel we’ve created something timely and not for the faint-hearted. If you too suffer with anxiety, shame, compulsive lying but like a laugh, please tune in at some point.”

Prebble added, “At last I get to make my best friend Billie Piper do terrible things on screen again. It is all I live for.”

“We couldn’t be more excited about I Hate Suzie – a truly unique show, from the brilliant, long-standing creative partnership of Lucy Prebble and Billie Piper,” Sky’s Cameron Roach chipped in. “Lucy’s scripts promise a vital, moving and darkly funny portrayal of the thirty-something woman, and the prospect of Billie bringing Suzie to life is thrilling. Following in the footsteps of Patrick Melrose, Save Me, and Chernobyl, I Hate Suzie’s commission underlines our belief in backing truly original drama and Sky Atlantic as the home for the most innovative storytelling and ideas.”

Production company Bad Wolf, led by ex-Doctor Who producers Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, is behind the forthcoming series. Bad Wolf are also currently working on His Dark Materials and A Discovery Of Witches.

More on the new series as it arrives.
