Being a gamer can be a rather expensive habit if you aren’t careful. With some of the biggest new games arriving with a price tag of $70 now, it can be hard to justify pulling the trigger on something new right away. Which is likely why gamers were found to be mostly playing older games despite 2023 being a huge year for new releases.
It’s a fairly common practice to wait for deals on video games before buying, and the best deals tend to be on older games. That being said, how much are you realistically willing to spend on a game you actually want? Are you someone who will pay full price (or more) to play a game on day one, or do you always wait until it drops to a more reasonable price?

There’s no doubt that the best time to save money on games isn’t right when it releases. However, there are always new games coming out that are well below that $70 threshold that see massive success. A recent example of this is Palworld, which launched at just $30 and sold over 5 million copies in its first weekend. There was also the recent Steam hit, Content Warning, which initially launched for free and enjoyed a great surge in players.
On the other side of that, we have publishers like Ubisoft offering up expensive editions well over the $100 mark months before the release of a game. Do you think the prices for modern AAA games are valid, or wildly out of control? How much do you think a new game should actually cost?
