How Arsenal could look under Mikel Arteta with three transfer deals

Arsenal have been tipped to hire Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta as their replacement for Unai Emery should the Gunners board opt to wield the axe.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to the Emirates back in 2018, when Arsene Wenger walked away.

Arsenal went for Emery on that occasion but, with the Spaniard struggling, they may be set to bring the axe crashing down on the 48-year-old’s reign in north London.

The Sun claim Arteta is in the frame to replace him – so Express Sport now takes a look at how the Gunners may line up playing in a similar 4-3-3 style to City.

Leroy Sane

According to the same publication, Arteta may look to bring Leroy Sane with him to the Emirates.

The Manchester City star was keen to leave the Etihad for Bayern Munich in the summer but, ultimately, a move to the Allianz Arena failed to materialise.

Sane can play on the right or the left and may replace Alexandre Lacazette in the Gunners XI.

That would allow Arteta to keep Nicolas Pepe on one wing and deploy Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang down the middle.

Signing Sane would likely be expensive, though, with City slapping a price tag of over £100million on the Germany international back in the summer.

Phil Foden

Phil Foden is another player who could make the move from Manchester City to Arsenal.

The midfielder has struggled for minutes yet again this season, despite Pep Guardiola being a big admirer and vowing to play him on a regular basis.

Yet again, City would likely demand a high fee.

But the promise of regular football under Arteta, a man he knows, may be the ticket to him joining Arsenal at the end of the campaign.

Dayot Upamecano

Dayot Upamecano has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal amid his fine form for RB Leipzig.

The 21-year-old has helped Julian Nagelsmann’s side to second in the Bundesliga table this season.

And with Arsenal crying out for defensive reinforcements, he would be an ideal buy.

He’d likely cost in the region of £40m to £50m – making him the most-expensive defender in the club’s history.

Arsenal XI in full: Leno, Bellerin, Upamecano, Holding, Tierney, Foden, Torreira, Guendouzi, Sane, Aubameyang, Pepe
