Home Alone star Daniel Stern has revealed his unlikely showbiz feud with U2 rock icon Bono.
Daniel, 66, played would-be-burglar Marv Murchins in the 1990 Christmas classic and its 1992 sequel, Lost In New York.
In his new book, Home And Alone, Daniel reveals how he clashed with Bono and his friends over a late-night party in which the music was said to be blaring until 1am.
‘By one in the morning, I was out of my mind,’ Daniel wrote.
Upon investigating, he found that the house next door had been rented out to none other than Bono, of U2 fame.
‘I called the police and told them that there was an unlawful party going on and that I was going there to shut it down and I hoped they would join me.’
Describing his version of events, Daniel continued: ‘I hopped in my truck… and headed in… I lost it. I started shouting, “Shut the f***ing music off. Families with children are trying to sleep and instead we have to listen to this f***ing music all night long?
‘Shut it off! You don’t even live here, you f***ing pretentious a**holes!’
Security then attempted to stop the star, who admitted that he can look ‘pretty insane and scary’ when angered.
Outside of Home Alone, the actor, director and screenwriter is notable for starring as Phil Berquist in the 1991 comedy film City Slickers and its 1994 sequel, The Legend of Curly’s Gold.
He also voiced Dilbert in the animated series, based on the iconic comic strip of the same name.
His other films include Breaking Away, Stardust Memories and the 1998 black comedy Very Bad Things, co-starring Cameron Diaz and Christian Slater.
More recently, he has appeared in 10 episodes of the TV series For All Mankindand the 2018 movie Game Over, Man!
Outside of acting, he is an active artist, specialising in bronze sculpture, and has done many private commissions, gallery exhibitions and art fairs.
In 1980, he married actress Laure Matto. They have three children together – daughters Ella and Sophie Stern, and a son, California State Senator Henry Stern.
His new book, Home And Alone, shares his experience of working as an actor in Hollywood, including his battles with dyslexia, Mickey Rourke, Patrick Dempsey… and Bono from U2, of course.
Writing about his working relationship with Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin, Daniel said: ‘He was a sweet kid but had lived a very different life than my kids. He didn’t know how to play tag or throw the ball around. He was more of an indoor kid and had a lot of adult pressure on him from show business and parents and such.
‘We realized he had formed a friendship with Michael Jackson, because when we picked him up, his hotel room was stacked, literally from wall to wall and ceiling to floor, with toys. Every conceivable toy, as if someone went through Toys ‘R’ Us, took one of each, and dropped them in his room. All a gift from Michael Jackson.
It made all of us feel really bad for Mac. My kids had experienced a taste of the distortions that fame can bring, but seeing what Mac’s life was like put things in a different perspective
