Kraft Sports & Entertainment has partnered with Helix eSports to open a LAN center outside of Boston, which will serve as the official practice facility of the Overwatch League’s Boston Uprising.
The 18,000-square-foot facility will be established at Patriots Place in Foxborough, Massachusetts. Patriots Place is a shopping and entertainment center located adjacent to Gillette Stadium, home of the NFL’s New England Patriots. The center will feature more than 100 gaming PCs and 30 game consoles available for use by the public, along with virtual reality stations. The venue is expected to open in January 2020.
As part of the deal, Helix eSports has been named the official gaming center partner of the Boston Uprising, which is also owned by Kraft Sports & Entertainment (alongside the Patriots). Overwatch League teams will live in and host homestand weekends in their respective home markets in 2020, with the Uprising set to host two homestands at a yet-to-be-disclosed venue.
“With the Uprising’s move to Boston, we wanted to provide the team with a first-class practice facility and give our fans unprecedented access to their home team,” said Kraft Sports + Entertainment Chief Marketing Officer Jen Ferron, in a release. “This new partnership with Helix eSports will accomplish both of these goals by providing our fans with access to our team and players through onsite events and appearances, while allowing the Uprising to practice from a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of Patriot Place.”
The facility will also host competitions in partnership with the Uprising, ggCircuit, Super League Gaming, and esports organization Team Genji, along with game publishers and other tournament operators. It will host school leagues and educational programs, as well.
