Helen Glover misses third straight Olympics gold medal with fourth place finish

Helen Glover just missed out on an Olympic comeback medal after finishing fourth with Polly Swann in the women’s pairs.

The Team GB duo finished in six minutes 54.96, seconds behind winners New Zealand as the Russian Olympic Committee claimed silver ahead of Canada.

Glover, who won pairs gold in 2012 and 2016, only returned to training in 2020 following almost four years out of the boat after starting a family.

Polly wept in the TV interview immediately after the race as she spoke of her disappointment at missing out on a medal.

Helen told her three children: “Mummy will be back very soon and I can’t wait to give you loads and loads of cuddles.”
