Heartbroken John Lydon said 'unloved' Keith Flint was 'destroyed by being alone'

Legendary Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon has spoken emotively about the death of The Prodigy’s Keith Flint, saying that it should serve as a ‘wake-up call’ to the music industry.

Speaking to TMZ at the premiere of the ‘Punk’ docuseries at Hollywood’s SIR Studios, a clearly cut-up Lydon said he was ‘heartbroken’ that Keith had taken his own life.

The 63-year-old Public Image Ltd singer said that Keith, 49, was “alone” and this is what “destroyed” him, before calling out his contemporaries to do more to ensure others don’t feel a similar way.

With his voice cracking, John said: “My heart is broken for him. He was a good friend of mine. Don’t get me wrong but nobody loved him and he was left alone and he got destroyed.”

John then went on to say that he would be open for anyone to approach him, if they had similar feeling to what had driven Keith to feel so unhappy with life.

He continued by asking: “Why? Why do so many people in this industry be left alone? Come to me, I’m Johnny.”

When asked whether drugs played a part in Keith’s death, John replied, “probably,” before making an impassioned plea for people to be more aware of others.

He continued: “What you got to understand is we are not looking after each other any more and we should.

“Any of you out there need help, come talk to me. We do not need to die.”

Keith had split from his wife, Japanese DJ Mayumi Kai last year, but he’s said to have tried for a reconciliation shortly before his shock death.

According to The Sun , Flint had tried to take the house off the market as he attempted to work out his marital problems.

A source said: “Keith always hoped they could make it work and he made various phone calls to her, pleading with her.

“But she didn’t change her mind and insisted they sell the house. It broke Keith.”

Mayumi was 6,000 miles away at a gig in Tokyo when her husband of 12 years took his own life.
