Hasbro to reissue classic Tiger Electronics handheld games

Toy maker Hasbro is resurrecting four 1990s handheld games with its new Tiger Electronics LCD line. Each one will cost $14.99 in the US and will be faithful recreations of the monochrome, one-game only designs (via The Verge).

Available for pre-order at Gamestop, Hasbro is releasing The Little Mermaid, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, X-Men: Project X and Transformers: Generation 2.

The basic design of each toy is very similar, with D-pad on the left and slightly different controls on the right depending on the action needed for that game. Black and white graphics dance across static coloured backdrops, recalling an era long since passed.

We’re not quite sure who these are for – kids today surely won’t want them given the superior games they are already used to. The games are probably destined for the sort of birthday present you buy a nerd in their 40s when you don’ t know what else to get them.

Tiger Electronics has been defunct since 2002 when it was fully merged with Hasbro, who bought Tiger in 1998.
