Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 Script Gets High Praise from Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan has read James Gunn’s script for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and says it’s “amazing.” The Nebula actress also noted that it wouldn’t have “felt right” to go on without Gunn in the director’s chair. Gillan is currently promoting her latest movie The Party’s Just Beginning, which she wrote and directed. Disney famously fired Gunn in the summer of 2018, only to rehire him less than a year later. At the time of the director’s firing, the cast of Guardians was heartbroken and outspoken, especially Dave Bautista. The entire cast even went as far as to release a joint statement asking the studio to reconsider.

When it was announced that James Gunn was returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, MCU fans were ecstatic. For nearly a year, the project was in limbo and it was uncertain if the movie would ever see the light of day. But that has all changed. “I can say that I’ve read it and it’s amazing,” Karen Gillan said when asked about the threequel’s script. She went to say, “We’re all really excited that James is back to complete the trilogy because it wouldn’t have felt right without him. It’s a wonderful, wonderful script.”

This differs from what James Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn recently said about the Guardians Vol. 3 script. In August, Seann Gunn said that his brother might go back and do another pass. Of course, it’s possible that the director may have been able to do so since then, but it seems he’s been rather busy with The Suicide Squad, which is currently in production. Gunn spent most of the summer in the pre-production phase and was also putting the final touches on that specific script.

While Karen Gillan was able to read the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script in its entirety, she definitely was not able to say the same thing about this year’s Avengers: Endgame. “I didn’t get the whole script,” she notes, “but I got a good chunk of it and so I could easily work out what was happening.” When Gillan was approached to take the role of Nebula, she was “over the moon,” especially when she heard she was going to have a larger part in Endgame. She had this to say.

“When I signed on to Nebula, it was eight days of filming and she was supposed to die in the first Guardians film. So to go on and be able to evolve the character and then have her be this pivotal role in Endgame was amazing. I didn’t see it coming at all.”

Guardians Vol. 3 does not currently have a production start or release date at this time. James Gunn is hard at work on The Suicide Squad and that will take up much of his time over the course of the next year or so. Then, he will return to the MCU to finally start the third and final movie in the trilogy, which would have already been in the post-production process by now had Gunn not been fired. The interview with Karen Gillan was originally conducted by Yahoo.
