Gordon Ramsay is not handling self-isolating with his family in the best way.

The celebrity chef is currently in lockdown with wife Tana Ramsay and their five children, Megan, Matilda, Holly, Jack and baby Oscar, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

However, speaking about the experience, the 53-year-old branded it ‘mayhem’.

During an appearance on Heart Breakfast, he told hosts Jamie Theakston and Lucy Horobin he has done ‘more cooking in the past two weeks than I have done in the past two years’.

Well, that is your actual job, hun…

‘It is insane,’ he continued. ‘The kids look at me in the morning and say, “Dad what’s for breakfast?”, “Porridge”, “And what about lunch? I like those sort of quesadillas”, “Can we have butter chicken for dinner?” It’s insane.

‘Yesterday they said, “Do you mind going down to the butchers to get a pound of lamb mince for Oscar’s shepherd’s pie?”’

Comparing it to a service at one of his restaurants, he said: ‘It is insane. Honestly, except that they don’t get up.

’It’s not, “Will you do the dishes?” it’s just “Can you load the dishwasher?” Even that is hard work for these guys.

‘[It’s] mayhem. Jack’s always out training, he goes out for a run in the morning and he comes back and he’s ready for breakfast.

‘Oscar sort of gets up around 6, and then the three girls, they get up around 6 in the evening.

Gordon was recently slammed for laying off 500 staff members (Picture: Getty)

‘They are not good at getting up in the morning, I don’t know why.’

It definitely sounds… intense.

Gordon was recently met with backlash after it emerged that he had laid off 500 restaurant staff amid the health scare.

It was claimed he summoned his staff to a meeting where they learned their contracts would be terminated and it hasn’t been guaranteed that the staff affected would retain their jobs when the lockdown restrictions lift.

They were later sent an email explaining they would be paid up to 17 April, giving them the option to appeal the decision.

Amid the palaver, chef de partie Anca-Cosmina Toropu claimed staff members also haven’t heard a word from the Hell’s Kitchen star since they were let go.

Hitting back at the backlash, Gordon – who is thought to be worth around £140million – blasted ‘pathetic’ critics who took aim at his decision.

Responding to a tweet from journalist Marina O’Loughlin, who had tweeted: ‘Yet again, a day when multi-millionaires won’t put hands in pockets while the little guys doing everything they can for their staff (sic),’ he raged: ‘You’ve clearly have never run a business, and yet across these very difficult times for all, you hide behind your pathetic tweets, get a grip will you!!!

‘Cheap shots again and again from a bitter egotistical critic yawn! (sic).’

A follow-up tweet saw him ask: ’Ever thought about giving back across these difficult times?’, adding‘I’ve done nothing BUT put my hands in my pockets for years!’

Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden is on weekdays from 6.30am to 10am.
