And Google look set to reveal all on the highly anticipated gaming project very shortly.

GOOGLE GAMES CONSOLE – WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT IT SO FAR?

It’s rumoured that Google will be lifting the lid on a games streaming service and a fully fledged console at GDC 2019.

In terms of the streaming service, a test Google carried out last year may give fans an indication of what’s in store.

We know Google have been working on their Project Stream tech, which lets gamers stream titles via an internet browser.

And in 2018 Google ran a test which had current-gen title Assassin’s Creed Odyssey streamed via Chrome.

The ability to stream games that run on the PS4 and Xbox One simply over an internet browser opens up huge possibilities.

Having that tech in place could do away with the need to own a console entirely and would severely reduce the cost of entry for gaming.

GOOGLE GAMES CONSOLE – HAVE THERE BEEN ANY LEAKS?

Google have also been rumoured to be testing out whether Nintendo Switch controllers can work with the Chrome browser.

This may be a sign of Nintendo offering support for Google’s gaming vision.

Or, alternatively Google may be looking to offer gamers the chance to use their existing controllers with the rumoured streaming service.

A patent has also been unearthed showing what a Google created controller for their streaming service or new console could look like.

The patent was filed in October and the illustrated Google console controller doesn’t deviate from what gamers typically expect from a controller.

It has a D-Pad, four main buttons, shoulder trigger and two analogue sticks.

It very much follows in the footsteps of the Sony DualShock and other such joypads like the Xbox One and Steam controllers.

To give fans a better idea of what they can expect from the controller, Yanko Design in a post online revealed mock-ups based on the patents.

Finally, rumours are swirling that Google could be working with a major player in the games industry on their new console.

It’s rumoured that SEGA could be working in partnership with Google to produce games for the streaming service and the console.

As revealed in a post by GameRant, the rumours come from YouTube channel Spawn Wave.

The prospect of SEGA returning to play a pivotal role in the console wars will undoubtedly get plenty of gamers excited.

But as always with rumours it’s best to take them with a big dollop of salt until official confirmation.
