Genius dad uses toolbox as a nappy changing station for his baby twins

THERE’S no denying that preparing for the arrival of a new baby is an expensive time for most expectant parents – what with all the nappies, baby baskets and adorable clothes you just HAVE to buy.

However, one thrifty dad decided to make his money go a little further by turning a £160 tool cart into the nappy changing station of his wife’s dreams – and we have to admit, it’s kind of genius.

Sharing photos of his creation on the Facebook page Motorcity Mechanic, American father-of-four David Pike, 44, proudly wrote: “The wife finally gave in and let me to go Home Depot to buy ‘baby furniture’ (Husky Tool Cart).

“Feast your eyes on the Ultimate Diaper Changing Station for under £160 [$200].”

However, David’s tool cart conversion wasn’t without its difficulties and he wrote in a personal essay for Cafe Mom that his wife Denise wasn’t always so on board with the idea.

As the couple had got by without a changing table for their eldest two daughters, David originally argued that they wouldn’t need one for their twins.

He wrote: “After a lengthy  ‘discussion’, my wife reinforced we will be getting one. Being the smart husband I am, I fully agreed from that moment on.”

The dad – who has been working as a mechanic for the past 25 years – then went on to explain how he’d won his wife around to the idea by adding foam pipe around the corners of the bassinet.

As well as making the most of the extra drawer space (ideal for his adorable twin daughters’ baby clothes and nappies), the savvy dad also installed some built-in lights for nighttime nappy changes.

He continued: “Throw in a LED light for those late night nappy changes and a side shelf for easy reaching of those must needed wipes and you have yourself the most practical and functional changing station on the planet!”

And while it might not look as pretty as some of the bank-breakingly expensive changing stations you can get in store, we have to admit – this devoted dad might be on to something here.

Better still, David is also planning to repurpose the nappy station and turn it back into a tool cart when his twins are old enough.

Unsurprisingly, David’s genius creation has been widely admired online – with his post racking up over 20,000 “likes” and 53,000 shares.

One fan replied: “That’s awesome, you should patent it!”

Another raved: “This is absolutely amazing! Great job and great imagination!”

“This is actually a brilliant idea,” a third wrote. “Much sturdier than most changing tables, cool as part of the room’s decor and has a super practical future use for the little one. Love it!”

In more parenting news, this dad sparked bizarre debate after saying pegs should be left on the clothes line between washes.

And this “cheeky” mum wants to ask guests to bring CASH to her five-year-old twins’ birthday party – because she “doesn’t want to bin unwanted presents”.

Plus this pregnant mum was left fuming after her husband said he doesn’t want another baby because he doesn’t want to “cut gym time”.
