Dancing On Ice professional Matt Evers reveals he underwent therapy while competing on this year’s series with Gemma Collins.

Matt was partnered with Towie star Gemma, who pretty much dominated the show thanks to her backstage drama, clashes with the judges and mishaps on the ice.

He had supported the reality star throughout the series and was continuously seen defending Gemma against the backlash she received online.

But, Matt admits the pressure of wanting her to do well, the stress of the show and the trolling took their toll on his mental health.

In an interview with The Sun, Matt admits that he ‘struggled’ throughout the series and turned to ‘therapy’ after seeking help from producers.

‘I was struggling, I told the producers it was all getting a bit too much and they made sure I got therapy,’ Matt explained.

‘They arranged it right away, I had a couple of sessions. The stress of Dancing On Ice and the Gemma trolling, and the pressure to do my best to bring out the best in her, it was a challenge.’

Matt explained his struggles intensified when he was filming for The Full Monty, that raises cancer awareness, and was reminded of his mother passing away from the illness.

‘It brought up all these hidden emotions I had buried. Fortunately for me the show producers did look after me and were on it straight away to got me the help I needed.’

Gemma and Matt were the fifth duo eliminated from Dancing On Ice, but throughout the series and way after their departure they were definitely still the talking point of the show.

The G.C’s BFF Bobby Norris said the reality star had her ‘confidence knocked’ completely by the amount of trolling she was subjected to because of Dancing On Ice.

Despite throwing herself into training, Gemma became locked in a nasty feud with judge Jason Gardiner. She accused him of fat-shaming her and vowed not to return to the final after Jason called her a ‘refrigerator’.

When she decided to stand up to Jason and go ahead with her big return, Matt revealed she was threatened with a ‘shovel’ by one troll – who he responded to telling them that he hoped their threat was ‘not serious’, before reporting them to Twitter.

He also jumped to Gemma’s defence over claims she was being a ‘diva’ backstage and Matt threw his support behind Gemma once again when she was accused of faking a fall that saw her faceplant the ice.

Speaking on This Morning, he said: ‘I’ve been skating for 30 years and I’ve never seen anyone fall like that.

‘Part of my training as a skater, as the male you’re sort of taught how to save the girl at any cost and when I saw her slide she was very aware she was very close to the edge, so it was my job to ensure she didn’t slide into the barrier.

‘She’s good she’s still bruised she’s still icing her knees but she’s back with fighting spirit, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.’
