Microsoft and The Coalition’s Gears 5 now has branded in-game esports items based on four of the Gears 5 Pro League teams, with profits shared with the organizations.
The first wave of Pro Team Supporter DLC includes items for NRG Esports, Ghost Gaming, Team Reciprocity, and Rise Nation, with additional esports team content still to come. Revenue generated from the sales is split between teams and Gears 5 esports event prize pools, although the exact split has not been disclosed.
Each team has a bundle of five gun skins available for $9.99 USD a piece, with branded designs added for the game’s Lancer, Gnasher, Snub, Boltok, and Talon weapons. A pricier $19.99 bundle for each team also adds a branded banner, blood spray, and mark to the set.
The $2M+ Gears 5 2019-20 esports season is currently underway in partnership with tournament organizer PGL, with the Gears 5 Pro League running in North America, Central America, and Europe. The $200K San Diego Major will take place on Dec. 6-8, with a Mexico City Open in March 2020 and another major planned for May. The Gears 5 World Championship will take place in July.
