Gareth Bale’s relationship with the Real Madrid fans has gone from bad to worse after the club were knocked out of the Champions League by Ajax on Tuesday.
According to a fans’ vote on performances in the last-16 clash – created by Spanish publication Marca – Bale was apparently Real Madrid’s worst player on the night.
Of the 14 Los Blancos stars to turn out for the club in the second leg against Ajax, Bale came rock bottom in the poll.
The Wales international received 960 down votes, at the time of reporting, and just 178 up votes.
Luka Modric by contrast, who came first in the poll, received 1,100 up votes and 537 down votes.
Bale started the night on the bench but came on after half an hour when Lucas Vazquez suffered an injury.
He performed better than some of his team-mates, and even hit the post during one attack, but failed to impress the Real Madrid fans.
Bale has been linked with a move away from the La Liga giants in recent weeks after falling down the pecking order under Santiago Solari.
His agent Jonathan Barnett recently hit out at the way in which his client was being treated by the Real Madrid supporters.
In an interview with Sky, Barnett said: “This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth’s goals for years to come. Frankly they should be ashamed of themselves.
“Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way the Real fans have treated Gareth is nothing short of a disgrace.
“In the six years he has been in Spain, he has won everything. He’s one of the best players in the world. Those fans should be kissing his feet.”
