Gamescom Trade Show Expands to Asia With 2020 Singapore Event

Video gaming trade fair gamescom will expand to Asia with an inaugural Singapore edition taking place Oct. 15-18, 2020.

The event is a partnership between the Singapore Tourism Board and gamescom organizer Koelnmesse.

Gamescom is the industry’s largest event, with its 2018 edition attracting 370,000 visitors and over 1,000 exhibitors.

Gamescom, the largest trade fair for gaming and esports, is to launch its first satellite event outside of Germany. Gamescom Asia will take place in Singapore Oct. 15-18, 2020, through a partnership between Koelnmesse and the Singapore Tourism Board. Details on the venue and programming are yet to be announced.

According to the announcement, gamescom Asia will feature a two-day gaming industry conference, a three-day trade and public exhibition, including esports events, and a showcase of emerging technologies in gaming, among other attractions. Gamestart, which runs Singapore’s largest gaming convention, will be partner of gamescom Asia and will search for a new location in the Asia region for its event.

Mathias Kuepper, managing director of Koelnmesse Singapore, said that over 30,000 attendees are expected for the first gamescom Asia, including gaming industry professionals. “This is a launch event that we are all looking forward to. The region has been hungry for a Tier One gaming event and we now have all the ingredients to successfully cater to this need,” said Kuepper, in a statement.

First started in 2009, gamescom has grown into the largest gaming event of its kind in the world. For last year’s event, Koelnmesse reported 370,000 attendees in 2018, with 70% of the 1,037 exhibitors coming from abroad, from 56 countries. The event is sponsored and jointly organized by the German Games Industry Association (also known as “game”), and has included several esports competitions under the ESL Arena brand.
